After a very long travel day of delayed and cancelled flights, we finally arrived in Curacao, five hours late.
Best Place to Stay in Curacao – Marriott Curacao Hotel
Checking in at the Marriott Curacao Hotel after a very long travel day, the front desk could not have been more accommodating, offering us a drink as they pulled up our reservation. They upgraded our room to a garden view, on the second floor with a partial beach view.
The bellhop assisted us with our baggage, explaining the different features of the hotel and answering our question as we made our way to our room. The room consisted of a very comfortable queen size bed with plenty of comfy pillows, a table with a coffee maker, chairs and a desk. The TV stations were limited, but who stays in the room to watch TV, when you have the beautiful beach beckoning. There was a mini refrigerator that we used and a safe that held our laptop and iPad.
The bathroom had one sink with more than enough counter space to spread out.
There was a bathtub/shower combination with plenty of towels.
Our balcony had a small end table and two chairs, which overlooked the gardens and a hot tub. Every morning we would eat our breakfast on the balcony and enjoy this beautiful view.
The hotel had a nice gym, but we never made it there, as we were too busy running around enjoying the beach.
The view of the Marriott Curacao from the water was beautiful. I spent my days floating on my raft enjoying the turquoise water when we were not exploring the island.
TIP: Bring beach shoes, as there are coral in rocks in the water at most beaches.
According to the hotel staff, the better snorkeling was on the far end of the property where we spent most mornings and had the beach to ourselves. We would layout for a while, go snorkeling, before spending our afternoon by the pool.
The beach had constant trade winds blowing, making it very relaxing to relish the serene setting. At the beginning of trip, there did not seem to be very many people around, but by the last two days of our vacation it got busy. This is the first resort I have ever been that people did not save chairs. There were always plenty of chairs available, whether on the beach or at the pool.
Around the pool the iguanas would scurry under the chairs, looking for food and one of the kids chased him up the tree.
The view of the incredible pool from the open air lobby, just steps away from the ocean.
There was always fresh cold water with lemon, orange or cucumber to enjoy in the open air lobby. A nice touch since it was very hot out.
So glad we did not stay at the Hilton.
Originally we booked with the Hilton located close to the Marriott, but after reading the reviews on line and talking to different people who visited the island, we changed our reservation to the Marriott and we were extremely glad we did. We visited the Hilton one day, and left feeling we made the right decision, as it looked tired and rundown.
Stunning sunsets at the Marriott Curacao
Everyone working at the Marriott Curacao that we encountered were extremely friendly. Jennifer at the concierge desk was always smiling and helpful answering our many questions. The week went by too quickly and we both agreed, we want to return someday and spend more time at the Marriott Curacao enjoying their amazing sunsets on the beach.
