We did not spend a lot of time Exploring Carmel and Monterey as we have been to this area before.
It took longer than we planned to reach Carmel, due to the road construction, and stopping for the many pictures along the way. By the time we got to Carmel, we were ready to get out of the car. We headed for the beach and found some cute houses along the way.
People come to the beach to lay out, not to swim due to the strong current.
It was getting late, so after taking some pictures we headed to Clint Eastwood’s restaurant and hotel which is just south of the village of Carmel. We missed this place the last time we were in Carmel, and wanted stop by before going to our hotel in Monterey. This location was tucked into a quiet area of Carmel, behind the Carmel Mission. It was a little hard to find but eventually the GPS found it. There was no big sign, just this small sign hanging in the trees.
The grounds for Mission Ranch were well manicured, with stunning views of the pastures. They were setting up for a wedding that was taking place later that evening.
The restaurant is an old farmhouse. The dining room did not open until 5:00 p.m. but we were able to peek inside. We checked to see if we could get a reservation, but they had no availability for that evening.
TIP: Make reservations in advance because it gets extremely busy.
The views from the restaurant faced southwest, which overlooked the meadow with the sheep grazing on the grass, looking towards Point Lobos in the distance. There is an outside patio, which would be a great place to enjoy the sunset.
This cute cottage was located on the grounds.
After walking around and admiring the surroundings, we got back in our car, and drove to Monterey where we checked into the Hilton Garden Inn, which is adjacent to the entrance of Highway 1. It was less than 10 minutes to downtown Monterey. It was a basic Hilton Garden Inn and the location was convenient for our early start in the morning. J dropped me off to check in and he went to park the car in the underground garage. Check in was quick and we were assigned a third floor room with a balcony.
After dropping our stuff in the room, we drove to Cannery Row. We parked along the street, as someone pulled out as we approached. There is a two hour limit along the street. We knew that we would not be there two hours as we were just going to walk around.
After grabbing a bite to eat, we went back to our room, to relax for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow we were going to San Francisco.
