Today we would be touring the sites of Hollywood, Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica
Our first stop was Hollywood, where we parked in the garage on Hollywood and Hyland. We immediately went to the viewing area in the shopping complex to take a picture of the Hollywood sign. (You can just barely see the sign in the background under the walkway)
From the landing we were able to take this picture. The sign measures 450 feet long and each letter is 45 feet tall.
This complex has a variety of places to eat and shop.
Right outside the complex is Hollywood Blvd, where we saw the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a tribute to the stars in the form of star-shaped brass plaques imbedded into the sidewalk. In the star was the name of the person being honored along with their specialty. It was fun walking down the street looking for people we recognized. We walked down one side of the street and back up the other side and still did not see all the stars.
We passed The Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, which is Hollywood’s most famous landmark. Hand and foot prints of the stars can be found here. If you want to take a tour, there was a variety of tour companies in this area.
We passed the building where Jimmy Kimmel tapes his live show.
Dolby Theater, formerly the Kodak Theater, home of the Academy Awards.
After several hours we moved on to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Not many people were shopping on Rodeo Drive. We walked into a couple of stores but it was way to expensive for me.
We saw Kyle Richards store, which has been featured on The Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Her store was not as impressive as Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant, Villa Blanca, also shown on the Housewives of Beverly Hills. This place was stunning.
It was getting late and since this area was a little too pricey for us, we made our way to Marina Del Ray, where we would be spending the night at the Hilton Garden Inn. We choose this area to be closer to the airport as traffic in Los Angeles is horrible.
TIP: Allow plenty of time to get around as traffic was very heavy everywhere we went.
After checking in, we had dinner in the hotel before retiring to our room to enjoy our view from our balcony and talked about our busy week. What a perfect way to end the day.
The next day we checked out of the hotel. We asked the front desk if we could leave our car in the garage until we left for the airport. That was no problem. We loaded our luggage into the car and started walking to the beach. Our plan was to walk to Santa Monica.
There were not many people out this early on the beach.
The views along the walkway were stunning. Wouldn’t you like to have a house with this view.
We passed the famous Muscle Beach in Venice, where a few people were working out.
Venice Beach was very different from Marina del Ray.
More people out on this beach than the last beach we went by.
As we got closer to Santa Monica we could see the pier with the ferris wheel.
When we finally reached the pier, we had walked around 4 miles. We walked around the pier, before going over the bridge to the third street promenade. This area was a lot nicer than Venice Beach.
We enjoyed this area and spent several hours having lunch and walking around. We were tired from walking and caught a bus back to Marina del Ray. We had dinner in on the water before driving to the airport. We were catching the redeye back to the east coast. It was a busy week, but we really relished our time in California. There is so much to see and do that one week is not enough. That just means we have to return someday.
