Forget about Exploring Positano Italy when it’s raining, the walkways floods.
We were supposed to hike the Path of the Gods today, but while we were eating our breakfast, it started pouring. We decided not to go hiking, as we feared the hills would be muddy or slippery. The weather was calling for 100% chance of rain. We captured these pictures from our room. We waited for the storm to blow over before venturing outside. I am so glad we had not left for our hike. I would not want to be out on the streets when the storm hit.
As we watched the rain come down, it started coming through our patio doors. We quickly went to get towels to put around the door to keep the rain from coming in the room.
We could see the storm come over the mountains.
As it got closer it started to rain.
It eventually stopped and we were able to go out, but it ruined our plan to go hiking. Instead we decided to take the bus to Sorrento. We walked up the hill to the bus stop closer to Sorrento. There is a red bus that loops around Positano, if you do not want to walk to the top of the hill. It costs 1.30 Euro. Where we were staying, the bus went out of our way to reach our destination. By the time we waited for the bus and then rode it out of our way, we found it quicker to walk. We did take the bus one evening just to ride it around the loop. It takes awhile to make the circle, so if you plan on using the local bus, allow extra time
The sun came out as we were making our way up the hill to the bus stop. The views overlooking Positano were gorgeous.
If you plan on renting a car, it will cost you to park in Positano. After watching how drivers drive on these roads and the parking situation, I would take a bus or taxi to get around.
When we reached the bus stop, we went into the corner store to purchase our bus tickets. With tickets in hand, we went out to join the others who were waiting for the bus to arrive.
That day they were working on the road. We waited a long time before a bus came by, when the bus finally came, it did not stop as it was full. Between the road construction, traffic being backed up and the bus not stopping, there were quite a few angry people on this road. We opted to walk to the other bus stop to see if it was any better. This allowed us to see the views from the road.
TIP: Be flexible and have backup plans, especially if using the bus system.
Not much of an edge on the road to walk, especially with the buses going by and cars parked along the road.
But it was fun seeing the houses on the side of the hills.
As we were walking, we discovered Palatone Grocery, which has been in business since 1890.
I never got tired of these views.
The other bus stop had just as many people waiting as the other stop. We opted to head back to the beach and spend our time in Positano. We were not able to hike the Trail of the Gods or go to Sorrento, but we still enjoyed our day. Have a backup plan for your day in case your arrangements fall through due to unforeseen circumstances.
TIP: Try to get an early start if riding the buses.
