Hiking Monterosso to Vernazza took several hours due to the amount of times we stopped to take pictures.
We had purchased a Cinque Terre trail pass the day before in Riomaggiore. Do not fill the information out on the pass until the day you want to use it. If you do not purchase a card before you hit the trails, there is a booth along the way where you can purchase a pass (cash only). When you pass by the hut they check your ticket. The picture below shows the hut we passed where they checked our pass.
TIP: Bring plenty of water and snacks for this hike.
There are a lot of steep steps, uneven narrow paths winding up and down the hills. We passed plenty of vineyards along the way.
The views are stunning.
The trail was filled with hikers going in both directions.
Our first view of Vernazza.
As we got closer the views were even better Hiking Monterosso to Vernazza.
It’s about a two mile hike from Monterosso to Vernazza. It takes a couple of hours to complete, especially when you are constantly taking pictures. It is considered the hardest part of the trail. I was glad we tackled it first. Make sure you bring plenty of water and food as you will need it, especially if it is hot. There were only two trails that were open when we were there. Monterosso to Vernazza and Vernazza to Corniglia. The other paths were closed with no indication of when they would reopen.
We were going to have lunch in Vernazza and explore the town before hitting the next trail, Vernazza to Corniglia.
