Our two weeks flew by and we had one more day to enjoy before going home.
Of course it was raining as we left Wengen on the early morning train. Three trains later we arrived at Zurich’s main hub around 8:30am.
We decided to get familiar with where we needed to go the next morning, as this train station houses the airport check in on the upper levels. After we found where to check in, we went outside to pick up the shuttle to go to our hotel to drop off our luggage.
I had booked the Hilton Zurich Airport location with points for our last night, which saved us 300 CHF. The shuttle dropped us off at the hotel, which was five minutes away. We were able to do the paper work to check in, but the room would not be ready until 3. They stored our luggage for us and we went right back out to take the shuttle to the airport to begin our day wondering around the tourist sites in Zurich.
As throughout our time in Switzerland, the weather was not cooperating as it was cloudy and drizzling. Leaving the train station we started making our way to Old Town.
We walked from the train station for about a mile through the Bahnhofstrasse area where we saw plenty of luxury and budget brand stores. This area was way to expensive for us so we continued walking.
There were more cute side streets.
There were plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.
As well as delicious swiss chocolate to buy. As long as you had money, you could find it in Zurich.
We passed by the Grossmunster.
Evidentially we arrived in Old Town and stopped to have lunch.
This restaurant provided blankets. You needed them if you were going to sit outside as it was a damp and cold day.
We had seen enough of the area and went back to the train station to go to Rhine Falls which is located northeast of Zurich. The journey took about an hour by train.
We were really disappointed with Rhine Falls because of the bad weather. We decided not to pay the admission to tour the falls, as it was raining and foggy. It was not a good day to sight see. When we left to go back to Zurich, we had a great view of the falls from the right hand side of the train.
We stopped off at a grocery store for a bottle of wine, cheese, and croissants before heading back to our room and get ready for our long travel day tomorrow.
Upon our return to the hotel, we got our room key and luggage out of storage and went to our room.
