Our Day in St Kitts was not looking to good, as it was raining when we arrived.
Our boat was docked at the pier with the Jewel of the Sea. We decided to wait for the rain to let up and watch the people run on the pier with their umbrellas turning inside out from our balcony. We had been to this island before and made no plans for the day.
It finally stopped raining, but it was still very cloudy when we left the boat. As we made our way through the shopping area, we did not see very many people.
Walking around the shopping area, we were able to find free Wi-Fi to send some emails and post on Instagram.
We walked to the historic town of Basseterre. Basseterre is one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Caribbean founded in 1627.
There was a bus that offered tours when we walked by, but we were not ready to commit. When we returned the bus was gone. Oh well…..
We continued walking and taking pictures.
Not much had changed since our last visit to St Kitts. By this time the sun was trying to come out, which brought more people off the ship.
Before going back, we stopped to have a drink (or three). The Carib beer was 3 for $5. You had to purchase 3 to get the price. I had a Pina Colada. It was nice to sit and people watch.
TIP: The further you get away from the cruise ship the cheaper the drinks.
After enjoying our drinks, we headed back to the ship for lunch.
The view of St Kitts from the pier.
This was an island that there were plenty of vendors selling island tours or offering taxi service to the beach as soon as we got off the boat. Waiting until you arrive on the island to book an excursion, will allow you to see what the weather is like. I was glad we did not book a tour, as it took awhile for the sun to come out.
Do you wait until you get on the island to book a tour?
