Our Half Day Sail With Fury Charters started late.
Celebrity Summit delayed arrival in St Thomas, caused us to be late for our tour. Our half day sail was suppose to start at 8:30, but instead we were just getting off the boat. We were just leaving when my cell phone rang. It was Captain Mike looking for us. I told him we were on our way and would be there shortly, as it was a short walk to the pier where his boat was docked.
Upon arriving at our meeting place, the Fat Turtle Restaurant, we signed the waiver forms, paid for the tour ($75 per person cash) and listened to the security briefing, before getting on the boat.
One of the reasons why I picked Fury Charters, was the easy walk to the pier from the cruise ship. Several charters I contacted, were leaving out of Red Hook. I know from cruising, that the boat does not always arrive on time. Having to take a taxi to Red Hook, I could never guarantee that I could get there on time, so why bother dealing with that stress. You are on vacation. I realize that a tour cannot wait for me, so I stay away from booking those types of excursions, unless the tour company will pick me up at the boat. The Summit arrived late several times during our cruise.
There were about 20 people on the boat. We had plenty of room to spread out. Captain Mike used the sails to go to Buc Island. It was surreal, with only the sound of the waves hitting the boat, as we cut through the water towards our destination. It was a beautiful sunny day with calm gorgeous turquoise water. You could not ask for a better day to go sailing. The first mate handed out drinks and we sat back and enjoyed the ride.
We passed the Marriott Frenchmans Reef .
We also passed the Bluebeard Beach Club.
When we finally arrived, there were several boats already there. Experienced snorkelers could get off the boat and snorkel on their own, while others went with the first mate. As soon as we got into the water we saw squid lined up in a row. I have never seen so many squid in one place before. The picture does not show all of them.
Some of squid started to change colors.
We saw turtles, stingrays and plenty of different color fish. J loves to swim with the turtles and he got some great pictures.
Before we knew it, we were called back to the boat. The rum punch flowed freely, along with light snacks, soda and water as we returned to St Thomas. If you are looking for a great snorkeling trip to see plenty of fish and turtles, then this is the trip for you. I would definitely do another tour with Captain Mike, as he was great to deal with. He responded to all my emails, and we could not have asked for a better day.
When we returned to the pier, we went back to the ship for lunch and to change. After lunch we went to the store and purchased our liquor and they delivered it to the ship. We still had plenty of time to enjoy St Thomas before the ship sailed, as we were returning home the next day and back to reality.
