We found out about a great deal with the Sky Tram from a local during our visit in September 2016.
I don’t know if they will offer this tour in 2017, but we were told about a deal if we went up on the Jasper SkyTram after 6:00 p.m., you can pay an additional $10 to include dinner, but you have to ask for the deal when you purchase the ticket.
The cost of dinner starts at $25.00. The cost for the ride alone was $39.95 plus tax, so basically you get a great deal while being able to watch the sunset without the crowds. You do have to ask for the rate, as a couple going up for dinner with us on the tram were charged just for the tram ride as they did not know about the deal.
Originally we planned on going the next morning, but after finding out about this special, we decided to go up and have dinner. We arrived around 6:30 on a Tuesday night. After going into the gift shop and looking around, they directed us to an outside window to purchase our tickets. We were able to walk right up and buy our tickets.
TIP: Make sure you ask for the dinner deal or they will just give you a ticket for the tram. Not sure if they will offer this in 2017, but check before you make plans to go.
We had to wait almost twenty minutes before going up as there was a group in front of us. This allowed me to run back to the car for our heavier coats as it was much colder on top of mountain.
When we finally boarded there was only two other people in the car with us, along with the attendant, which made it nice taking pictures of Jasper as we made our way up the mountain.
It takes about seven minutes to reach the top. As soon as we got off the tram you could feel how much colder it was. They will tell you when the last tram leaves the mountain. Don’t miss it or you will be walking back down in the dark. When we got off, we saw the path to take to the top of the mountain but we would save that for after dinner.
We walked into the restaurant around 7:00 and there were only 4 other couples having dinner. We were seated immediately with a great view of the area.
After viewing the menus, I ordered the Hot Smoked BC Sockeye Salmon and J ordered the Stout Braised Short Ribs. Remember we only paid $10 per person for this meal saving us $35
While waiting for dinner, I went outside to take some pictures of the beginning of the sunset as the sun goes down closer to 9:00, making the days much longer than we are use to being from the East Coast.
It was really worth coming up in the evening, as there were not a lot of people around. There was still plenty of time to enjoy our meal before the sun would actually set. I went back inside just when our food arrived.
J’s Short Ribs had better flavor than than my Salmon. But for $10 I can’t complain.
After dinner we went out to take pictures of the sunset. We decided to walk up the hill to capture the sunset. I was glad we had good hiking shoes, as you would not want to do this path in flip flops.
After the sun went down, we headed back down the mountain to the tram. I wanted to get back before it got dark. I can’t imagine trying to walk down this path in the dark.
I will never forget the changing sky colors as the sun went down. Did you catch a spectacular sunset in Jasper?
