We usually stay at St Thomas BlueBeards Castle when spending a week in St Thomas.
If you have never stayed there it is located on top of the hill, with a wonderful view overlooking Charlotte Amalie and the cruise ships. There are several different time shares available on the property. This time we were able to get rooms in the Pirate Pension. St Thomas is one of our favorite islands. There is so much to do on this island. The ease of visiting other islands during our stay, makes this a fun filled destination. Generally, we travel to St Thomas in November. When we purchased our tickets in January, our daughter (T) could not decide if she wanted to go. (Who doesn’t want to go to St Thomas??) She finally decided she wanted to go just a couple months before we were to leave. I could not get her on our flight and she ended up leaving a little after our flight left, but went to Charlotte, then to Puerto Rico before finally landing in St Thomas.
We flew out on the 6:10 a.m. flight, with a stop in Miami and then onto St Thomas. We arrived at 1:35 p.m., gaining an hour, as they do not recognize Daylight Savings Time. We reserved our car through Budget and ended up with the last available car. The car was fine for driving and exploring, but not to carry luggage. We ended up putting our luggage in the back seat as the car was a hatch back. It was a good thing T was coming on a later flight, as there would have been no room for her luggage or her in this small car. We stopped off at the grocery store before checking into the hotel since it was on our way. We were able to unpack, before T called telling us she had landed. J went back to the airport to pick T up and I went out on the balcony and enjoyed the view waiting for them to return.
The airport is not far from were we were staying at the BlueBeard’s Castle Pirate Pension. We had a one bedroom condo, on the top floor. Plenty of space for three people for the week.
We have stayed at Bluebeard’s Castle before, but this was our first time staying in this section since the remodel. The condo had a full kitchen, living/dining room, balcony off the living room, as well as the bedroom, a nice bathroom and a washer and dryer in the unit.
It was perfect place to spend the week. This resort is not on the beach. It sits up on the hillside overlooking Charlotte Amalie and the cruise port, depending which section you are staying in. The red roofs make this resort stand out when you are walking around the town. The views from the hotel were spectacular.
We were able to eat breakfast on the balcony every morning and watch the cruise ships arrive in port. In the evenings, we went up to the pool/hot tub area and watched the cruise ships leave. It was the delightful way to end the day.
