We really enjoyed Our Day in Sorrento Italy.
When visiting a place for the first time, you either want to return to spend more time or once is enough. We enjoyed our previous visit to Sorrento and it made us want to come back again.
We started our day early and had no problems catching the bus. There were not many people going to Sorrento, which allowed us to get a good window seat to capture these pictures. The bus ride to Sorrento is along a winding road which provides superb coastline vistas.
TIP: Sit on the left hand side to get the best views of the coast.
It took about 45 minutes to reach our destination. We took the bus to the end, which is the final stop. Everyone has to depart the bus at this location. After leaving the station, we made our way to Piazza Tasso in the center of town.
Sorrento is a beautiful town that overlooks the Bay of Naples. It is famous for limencello. We sampled the limencello, but I did not care for it. Lemons was the theme we saw throughout our walk. We encountered lemon soap, lemon candy, lemons on aprons, and fresh lemons. You could spend hours going in and out of the many shops.
While shopping, I found a pair of red leather Italian shoes. They did not have my size at that store, but had to go to another location and would return in an hour. We were getting hungry and decided to eat lunch at an outside café to pass the time. We went to Blu Water Restaurant and enjoyed delicious pasta before returning to pick up my shoes. It was nice to just sit and relax with a bottle of wine, and good food.
After hours of wondering the alley ways and streets of Sorrento, we chose to take the ferry back to Positano. We headed to the center of town to take the stairs to reach Marina Grande. The picture below is where we caught the stairs to get to the ferry terminal. From this point, there are interesting views of the road down to the sea, as well as many steps to reach the road.
The stairs did not look that bad from the top, but as you can see it was a lot of steps to reach the bottom. This road took us right to Marina Grande.
Sometimes making plans at the last minute does not work out. When we arrived at the ferry terminal, we just missed the last boat back to Positino, which meant we now had to take the bus.
TIP: If you plan on using the ferry, check the schedule before you go.
Back up the hill we went to the train station to catch the bus. But all is not lost, as we got to take some great pictures of the area. The view of Sorrento from the ferry area is spectacular, so it was worth the walk. I did not realize how high we were above sea level.

Our Day in Sorrento went by much to quickly, but we really enjoyed our day and will return again someday. After four nights in Positano exploring the Amalfi coast area, we leave tomorrow to take the train to Rome to spend our last two nights.
