There are plenty of things to do in Curacao if you get tired of snorkeling and diving.
Visiting the different beaches in Curacao alone will keep you busy, but there are more options besides going to the beach. Some of these places you will need to rent a car to get to, but it is easy to drive in Curacao.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Stroll around Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are all types of shops, places to eat and plenty of colorful buildings to take pictures.
Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge
Walk across the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge and if you are lucky, it will open and you’ll marvel at the ships that go by. Just be careful as you could be stuck on this bridge for an hour or more depending on how many boats are trying to go through.
If you go downtown at night, the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge is even more stunning lite up.
The town is so pretty at night.
The Market in Punda
Cross the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge and make your way to Punda to visit the markets for fresh fish and produce.
If you can’t wait for the bridge to open back up, don’t worry, as there is a free ferry to shuttle you across to the other side.
Curacao and Dushi Signs
As you make your way around the town, you will see the Curacao and Dushi signs. Stop off and take pictures with the signs.
Enjoying the Architecture in Curacao
Spend time wondering the streets and enjoying the architecture of the colorful buildings.
There are plenty of places to stop for a drink and enjoy the views.
The Liqueur Factory in Curacao
The Liqueur Factory in Curacao is good for a stop if you have a car and are in the area. I would not recommend taking a tour, as there is not much there, except free samples. You can find this liqueur all over the island so you don’t have to go the Liqueur Factory.
You will need a car to get to the Flamingo Sanctuary. We were warned not to let anything in the car as there are a lot of break-ins as we saw by all the glass on the ground. J stayed in the car while I got out to take pictures. Don’t wear good shoes as it was muddy walking around taking pictures. I got lucky as there were plenty of birds around that day.
Watamula Hole is located in Sabana Westpunt. The difference in the northwest side of the island is worth a visit. Walking across the volcanic landscape, you will need good shoes. The constant force of the waves produce high sprays when hitting the shore.
Our week went by much too quickly and we did not get to see everything. This was our first time staying on the island for a week, and I know we want to return and see more of the island. Curacao was one of the friendliest islands we have visited in the Caribbean and I cannot wait to return.
