Taking the train from Naples To Sorrento was an easy DIY trip.
Naples was our next port of call on our European cruise. We had planned to take the ferry over to Capri and spend the day there. We obtained the ferry times along with the cost and was looking forward to spending some time on the island, but when we got up in the morning they were calling for rain in Capri. From the boat, you could see the Isle of Capri in the distance and it did not look good as there was a dense cloud over the island. Luckily we had a backup plan, which was to go to Sorrento. So off we went to the newspaper stand and purchased our train tickets.
After purchasing our tickets, we got in line for the number 1 bus which would take us to the train station. The sign listed arriving buses and told us the number 1 bus would arrive shortly.
As soon as we got on the bus we validated our ticket and tried to find a spot to hold onto since the bus was really crowded.
After arriving at the train station, we checked the board to see what track the train for Sorrento would be leaving. We proceeded to track 7 and waited for the train. While waiting for the train, another couple from our cruise ship noticed that the sign had changed which track our train would depart. We all scrambled to the new track just as the train arrived.
It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Sorrento, which was the very last stop for this train. After departing the train we headed towards downtown. We walked the streets and alleyways discovering many of the shops. There is plenty to do in Sorrento for the day.
We checked out several of the hotels along the cliffs, where we spotted people out sun bathing.
We saw where the ferry comes into Sorrento and wished we would have purchased a one way train ticket, and taken the ferry back, but we will do that the next time we visit Sorrento.
We could see the island of Capri and it was still engulfed in a dark cloud. We had a beautiful sunny day and were glad we were flexible to be able to change our plans.
Too soon it was time to head back to the train to return to the boat. We really enjoyed Sorrento and would like to return and explore more of the area and have a glass of wine and enjoy the view.
