We were looking forward to our stay, for Two Nights Milan Italy, after a really long travel day.
We were staying at Hotel Berna. This hotel was only a couple of blocks from the train station and a block from the Metro. Being close to the train station was very convenient for our short stay.
Even though we arrived early, the hotel allowed us to check in. They provided us with free drink coupons to use in the bar during our stay and also upgraded our room to a newer section of the hotel which was across the street.
The bellman proceeded to lead us across the street and explained how to enter the building, as you need a key card to get in. After you go through the first door, you have to wait for the door to close before you use your key to go thru the second set of doors.– Now that is security.
As you enter, there is a small area where they offer free coffee, tea, and water and a computer and printer to use.
Taking the elevator we made our way to our room. The bellman explained how to use the key card to turn on the lights and the air conditioning, along with other features of the room before he left.
We found large candy bars placed on each of the bed pillows, along with individual pieces of chocolate. Of course we had to taste the chocolate. It was delicious.
Before we arrived, Hotel Berna sent me a form to fill out for special requests. I requested extra pillows and they were on the bed. Pillows in Europe tend to be flatter than I like. They even provided packaged slippers for our use. They truly do an outstanding job of thinking of everything to make a stay at their hotel enjoyable.
There was a refrigerator with free drinks as well as a coffee maker in the room. They refilled the refrigerator daily. I left a request for specific drinks, and they were in the refrigerator when I returned.
The bathroom was small, with limited counter space. The duck in the sink was a cute welcome gift.
The shower was small but functional.
There was a safe in the closet where we kept our passports. The only negative part of our stay was our room faced the street, and you could hear the noise from the street at night. But since we were only there for two nights, it was not a big deal.
Hotel Berna did an excellent job providing the extra touches to make our stay memorable. The hotel was located a block from the metro. This was nice as it rained one morning, and we used the entrance to the metro to get to the train station. There is a tunnel that connects directly to the train station which kept us from walking out in the rain and getting soaked.
After unpacking our bags we caught the metro, which drops you right at the square where the Duomo is located. As you are walking up the stairs, the first structure you see when you reach the top is the church in front of you. It was stunning.
Walking around the church, you can see where they are working on sections of it. You get a different perspective from the back side. The sun was shining on the church made it even more beautiful.
As we made our way around there was a huge ad on the side of the church. I have never seen an ad on a church before. Does anyone know why they would place an ad on this church?
We spent some time exploring the different stores around the square.
We had to stop off for gelato, our first of many during our trip. We found Odeon Gelateria at the far side of the square. We ate our gelato, people watched and admired the Duomo, before heading back to our hotel.
We were exhausted after our long day and did not get to use our drink coupon until the second night of our stay. What a mistake. They offered free food in the evenings, basically allowing us to just sit and have drinks and food at the hotel. We wished we would have made it over the first night, but jet lagged set in and we were to tired. But if we ever go back, we are definitely going to the bar. We really enjoyed the food and the drinks and ended up spending the evening. We are not usually someone who stays in the hotel and eats hotel food, but I was glad we did. This was a great way to end our day.
The next morning, breakfast at Hotel Berna was even better. I will be doing a separate posting on this which was included with our stay, but here is a sneak peak of part of the spread.
They offered a wide variety of food for everyone. I have never experienced a free breakfast this extensive before.
We really enjoyed our Two Nights Milan Italy, but Hotel Berna made our stay even more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Berna if you ever go to Milan.
