One of the first questions we asked when we checked into our hotel was where was the best place to view wildlife.
She quickly got out a map and highlighted Pyramid Lake Road, which is just outside the town of Jasper. After dropping our things off, we go back in the car heading to Pyramid Lake Road. We no sooner turned onto the road when we had our first sighting.
Driving a little further we saw a black bear. We ended up taking this road every day to spot wildlife and we were rewarded with seeing many black bears.
One day we got lucky and saw two black bears together.
We always knew there was some type of wildlife spotting when we ran into the cars parked in the road.
Most of the time people were watching a black bear. If you follow me on instagram, you saw my videos on IG stories.
People leave their cars parked along the road and proceed to follow the bear to get better pictures. Because there were two bears people took more chances than they should have. They got way to close as they try to get the best pictures.
Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake
Two popular lakes in Jasper are Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake. Both lakes are located along Pyramid Lake Road. We decided to check them out since we were close by.
Pyramid Lake has it’s own island, which can be reached by a bridge. The first foot bridge was built back in the 1930s to gain access to the island. Walking across this bridge we could see why these lakes are so popular. It was just stunning.
It is very quiet and serene. We left just when a tour bus dropped off a load of people. This would be a nice place to come for a picnic or just to enjoy the scenery.
Further down the road is Patricia Lake where you can rent boats.
Or just set on the bench and take in the view.
Pyramid Lake Road was not the only place we saw wildlife. One morning when we were leaving to drive to Maligne Lake, we saw this elk right along the road. He was just standing there posing. He almost looked fake. This was the closest we got to wildlife. I was glad I was in the car and J had his foot on the gas ready to go if he jumped the guardrail.
He never moved even when we drove away.
